In 2021, the best of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales will return to South Africa in the famous red jerseys of the British & Irish Lions for their first tour since 2009. It will the the Lions' 14th tour to South Africa and revenge will be on their minds after the Springboks clinched the previous series in a dramatic second Test, getting retribution after the tourists mauled the Boks in 1997.
The history
The British & Irish Lions have toured South Africa on 13 previous occasions, with the first Tour taking place in 1891. In that time, the Lions have won four Test series, lost eight with one drawn. Prior to the 2021 tour, the Springboks' overall record against the Lions was played 46, won 23, lost 17 and drawn six.
