Women Boks to face Fiji at Commonwealth Games
April 14, 2018
The Springbok Women's Sevens team will face Fiji in the Women's Rugby Sevens tournament at the Commonwealth Games at Robina Stadium on Sunday and will be determined to secure a first win at the event.

The WomenBoks dropped a 19-10 result to Kenya in their final pool match on Saturday and will now be involved in the lower-tier competition of the tournament, with final placings at stake.

Wales and Kenya are the other two teams in the bottom draw to determine places 5-8.

Against Kenya, two tries by their opponents saw the South Africans trail 14-0, but two well-worked tries by Mathrin Simmers and Zenay Jordaan saw the lead cut back to one score.

South Africa attacked well, but could not make use of their opportunities and a late score by Kenya sealed their fate. "We did not use our opportunities and that cost us," said WomenBoks captain, Zintle Mpupha.

"We need to regroup once we are back home and start working even harder than before. We have seen how Kenya improved, but we did not use the opportunities we had," she said afterwards.

The match against Fiji will kick-off at 01h31 (SA time).
